Work in Orphanage

India contains one-sixth of the world's population, and millions of her children are born and raised in the streets. To help these teeming masses of homeless children, RCDP volunteers work in orphanages and share their hope, compassion, patience, and encouragement with India's neediest children. We work with well-established local organizations to provide this much-needed volunteer orphanage program. For many years, our partners have provided informal education, health care, and creative activities for India’s orphans.

You activities as a Volunteer:

As a volunteer in orphanage project in India, you will contribute in the development and growth of some of the most deprived and neglected children in the world. You will help the local staff as they work with children and directly involve them in various skill-developing activities and teaching English. Your commendable effort, contribution, teaching, love, care and inspiration for these underprivileged children will definitely enhance their knowledge, skill, perception, and experience thereby assisting to make their future success and radiant.

Working in an orphanage is a real rewarding job though your work can be difficult at times. You will work with small groups and may be asked to teach games, art, sports, and music and also escort the children to various activities. The orphanage centers run by our partners accommodate 50-70 boys and girls between the ages of 3 to 14. Although this is not an English teaching placement, you will have the opportunity to teach English during your stay in the orphanage. If you are skilled in sewing, painting, tailoring, crafting, typing, and computing, you can teach these skills to the children as well.

Project skills required:

No specific skills and qualifications are required. But volunteers joining orphanage projects should have love and passion for serving poor kids. Volunteers should also be flexible, self-motivated with open mind to learn and serve to the people of new culture and religion.

Project Location

Delhi: It is the capital city of India. It has a perfect amalgamation of New and Old Delhi with ancient temples and monuments to the posh shopping malls and international food chains. With all the diverse colors and luster, Delhi has remained the dazzling city of India.

Bangalore: Ancient and beautiful city of India, Bangalore is highly cosmopolitan with a variety of cultures and customs existing in harmony. The diverse city with ancient arts flourishing alongside the modern Silicon Plateau is filled with lush and splendid greenery welcoming every kind of people from the world.

Arrangement of room/food/supervision

RCDP-India makes appropriate provision for food, room and supervision for its volunteers from the very beginning of their arrival to the country. During the first week of language and cultural immersion program, volunteers stay in RCDP’s hostel in Gurgaon (Delhi) where cooks prepare a variety of Indian food (Nan, curry, Dal, chapatti, rice and pickle). During their volunteering programs in Delhi and Banglore, volunteers’ accommodation and food management is provided by a host family. However, volunteers joining RCDP-India’s orphanage program stay with the children in a hostel. RCDP makes provision of a separate room along with the shower facility in both the host family and hostel accommodation. RCDP’s staff visit visits volunteers in their respective placement in every two week to acknowledge the feedback, volunteers’ progress and the program in general.
