Project: Teaching in School
I did the language week and village stay week in reverse order. I think that the language week is an excellent introduction week and gently eases the volunteers into Nepali culture. The classes teach the basic and the volunteers still has enough time to explore Kathmandu. The organized excursions were very enjoyable. Overall I found all of the staff of RCDP very open, approachable, flexible, helpful and knowledgeable. A lot was parted into the week of village stay and Chitwan and every aspect was organized very effectively by RCDP. So that we got the most out of it. Sulav's family was ideal hosts. Water rafting was brilliant. I thoroughly enjoyed the week.
All members of my host family in Chitwan were so kind and loving and welcoming, even the members that spoke no English. I felt like part of the family. I had my own room with a fan and was helped to put up a mosquito net. They were very familiar with accommodating volunteers.
The staffs in the school were equally kind and arranged activities for entertainment outside school hours. I observed teachers the first day and then taught alone. Before arriving I feared that my presence would be unnecessary in the school; I might be assisting only. I was glad to see however that I was needed while I was there.
Yes, I would recommend RCDP Nepal to anyone because it is very organized and a well established group. It is respected by Nepalis and carries out important projects whose positive impact on the community is evident almost immediately.
Thank You.
