This Everest Gokyo Lake trek route is the perfect alternative to the traditional Everest Base Camp Trek. This mesmerizing Everest Gokyo Trek starts from Lukla and takes you into the high and Captivating Sherpa villages of the Everest region.

The Everest Gokyo Trek is an unbelievable exploration of the highlands of the Everest region. The trail brings you into the series of remarkable turquoise lakes through outstanding landscapes and rhododendron forests and allows you the chance to explore the spectacular views of the Himalayas.

This Everest Gokyo Trek is suitable for the trekkers who wish to visit Gokyo Lakes by avoiding the traditional Everest Base Camp trekking route.

Everest Gokyo Lake 14 Days Trek Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu

Flying into Kathmandu on a clear day is an exciting experience. You will be stunned by the exotic views of snow-capped mountains. As soon as you land, our support team will pick you up at the airport and escort you to your luxurious hotel. The rest of the day is reserved for rest.

Day 2: Fly Kathmandu to Lukla (2810m/9216ft). Trek to Phakding

(2652m/8698ft)

Flying to Lukla from Kathmandu is always an electrifying experience. After landing at the Lukla airport, you will meet our knowledgeable guide and start to trek up to the Dudh Koshi River Valley. You will be spending your first night in Phakding.

Day 3: Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3446m/11302ft)

The Dudh Koshi River trail leads you to Namche Bazaar, traversing beautiful pine forests and crossing several suspension bridges. including the well-known r Hilary Suspension Bridge.

Day 4: Rest day at Namche Bazaar

Namche is the major trading village of the Khumbu region and has a busy market. Here, you can visit the market and pick up a range of different souvenirs. You can also trek to the Everest View Hotel and watch the stunning sunset view.

Day 5: Namche Bazaar to Phortse Village (3643m/11949ft)

Leaving Namche Bazaar, you begin to climb a steep stone staircase. As you reach the top, you get to experience the stunning views of the Himalayas. After reaching the Sanasa village, you take a few minutes rest and then follow the trail that steeply climbs to Mong Danda. You have a lunch break here, before taking the short trip to Phortse Tanga.

Day 6: Phortse Village to Dole (4200m)

The trail leading to Dole from Phortse Tenga passes through captivating pine and rhododendron forests. You take a steep climb, crossing beautiful waterfalls and yak filled meadows to reach Dole to Spend the night.

Day 7: Dole to Machhermo (4470m/14661ft)

From Dole, you descend down to the stream and cross the bridge. After crossing a few teahouses, the trail ascends to the crest of the hill.

From the crest, you walk for about two hours to reach Luza and ascend along the side of the valley crossing pastures and Chortens with Prayers flags. From here, you walk down for some hours to Machhermo and spend the night.

Day 8: Machhermo to Gokyo Lake (4790m/15711ft)

You climb to the crest of a ridge, then ascend to the terminal moraine of the Ngazumpa Glacier and descend to the river bank. The trail levels out after you cross an iron bridge over a river and pass the first lake called Longpongo. You get to see the lama footprints on the stone, which is a special sight. The second lake, Taboche Tsho, greets you with a gleaming turquoise blue sheet of water.

Day 9: Morning climb to Gokyo - Ri (5340m/17515ft) / Afternoon walk around the Gokyo Lake

Today, you get up early in the morning and take a steep climb up to the Gokyo Lakes. After exploring the series of turquoise lakes, you follow a sharp trail up to the Gokyo Ri. As you climb, the summits of Everest, Makalu, Lhotse and Gokyo Ri come into view.

Day 10: Gokyo to Dole (4200m/13776ft). 5h walking. O/n at mountain Lodge

It is mostly a downhill trek. You descend back to Dole, viewing terraced landscapes and beautiful pastures along the way.

Day 11: Dole to Namche Bazaar (3446m/11302ft). 5h walking

From Dole, you descend down about 5 hours to Namche Bazaar and spend the night.

Day 12: Namche Bazaar to Phakding (2610m/8560ft). 5h walking

Descending along the Dudh Koshi Valley, you reach Phakding after a 5-hour walk. Enjoy the passes and lush forests throughout the trail.

Day 13: Phakding to Lukla (2840m/9315ft). 3h walking

You follow the Dudh Kosi down to Lukla. This last evening calls for a celebration with the Sherpa guides, porters and fellow trekkers.

Day 14: Fly back to Kathmandu

You pack up early and head to the Lukla airport to catch a flight back to Kathmandu. The rest of your day is free for your leisure.
