6 Days Kathmandu Valley Bird Watching Tour

Are you interested in bird watching in Kathmandu? Do you want to take a bird watching tour in Kathmandu valley for 6 days?

Kathmandu valley and its surroundings are filled with beautiful birds, which migrate from a faraway land. The best bird watching destinations in Kathmandu valley are Shivapuri and Nagarjun National parks, Sundarijal, Pulchowki, Godawari and Tau Dah. Lake Tau Dah is famous for waterfowls and other water birds during winter season.

You will begin the Kathmandu valley bird watching tour by visiting Shivapuri National Park followed by a two day birding tour in the dense vegetation of Hill Pulchowki. The area happens to be a favorite among bird watches. Your trip also comprises of a sightseeing tour of the special cultural heritage sites of Kathmandu.

6 Days Kathmandu Valley Bird Watching Tour Itinerary

The bird watching tour of Kathmandu will start from Shivapuri National Park and Pulchowki hill. The tour will end after sightseeing at the cultural heritage sites of Kathmandu.

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu

Upon your arrival a representative from our company will come to welcome you at Tribhuwan International airport. You will be taken to a hotel in a private vehicle and then receive a briefing on the bird watching tour in Nepal.

Day 2: Bird watching in Shivapuri National Park

You will be driving to Shivapuri Conservation Area, which lies towards the north from the busy city of Kathmandu. The dense vegetation of the conservation area is spread over 159 sq kilometers and is home to a a wide variety of wildlife.

300 species of birds have been recorded in this conservation area. Some of the birds are the scarlet Finch, spiny Babbler, yellow-bellied Bush warbler, white gorgeted fly catcher, Eurasian eagle –owl, Golden-throated barbet and barred cuckoo-dove. After the birding tour in Kathmandu you will be driven back to the hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 3: Birding in Kathmandu-Pulchowki hill

Pulchowki is the highest hill that encircles the Kathmandu valley, sitting 18 km south easterly of Kathmandu. The hill, which is 2760 meters high is a delight for birds and bird watchers. On the first day of the Pulchowki, you will be exploring the lower parts of the hill.

After having breakfast early in the morning, you will be heading towards Pulchowki in a private vehicle. Species of birds like Black Eagle, Kalij Pheasant, Mountain Hawk-Eagle, Ashy Woodpigeon, and Mountain Scops Owl are commonly found in this area.

Other commonly found species of birds include Speckled Piculet, Collared Owlet and the Crimson breasted Pied. The number of species of migratory birds to visit Pulchowki hill has already exceeded 50.

Day 4: Bird watching in Pulchowki hill of Kathmandu Valley

You will head towards Pulchowki again. Here, you will be exploring the higher parts of the densely vegetated hill. If you’re lucky, then you may encounter extremely rare species of birds, which visit to the hill. After bird watching you will be driven to your hotel.

Day 5: Sightseeing Trip around Kathmandu

After having breakfast you will visit Boudhanath, which is one of the largest stupas in the world and the center of Tibetan Buddhism in Nepal.

The next destination is Pashupatinath. Its main attraction is the temple of Lord Shiva located on the banks of Holy River – Bagmati. According to the Hindu myth, Shiva – lord of destruction, resides here as a protector of animals.

The final stop is Patan Durbar Square. The durbar square depicts the craftsmanship of medieval Kathmandu. The main highlights of the durbar square are Malla palace (turned museum), Krishna temple, Golden temple, Mahaboudha temple and Kumbeshwor temple.

Day 6: Departure from Kathmandu
