You’ll get the chance to explore Nepal through your lens—covering festivals, culture, architecture, and everyday life—while being mentored by seasoned professionals. It’s a creative and immersive way to tell meaningful stories and sharpen your photography skills.
After joining the program, you will explore the busy streets of Kathmandu under the supervision of an experienced supervisor, capturing stories, news, and events. You will attend press conferences, high-end events with distinctive Nepali individuals, rallies and demonstrations, festivals, and other cultural events. You will also cover issues such as the environment, art, architecture, culture, religion, fashion, and the economy. You will visit temples and giant Buddhist stupas, as well as documenting the spectacular views of Kathmandu Valley and the massive peaks of the many legendary mountains that tower over Nepal.
This photojournalism volunteer project will be a rewarding project for you. You will get to enhance your photography skills by learning to edit and capture professional photos. Besides, you will also experience lively Nepali cultures, an interesting way of life, and rituals like chariot-drawings and marriages.
This project requires you to have basic photography skills, like the basic functions of a modern camera. Don’t worry, even if you are at a basic level, our experienced supervisor will help you learn. You are required to be passionate about photography and active in the field. Besides, you should also respect Nepalese culture and customs.
While in Nepal for the photo journalism volunteer project, each and every day will be fun-filled. You will get to visit and experience everything the country offers, from the Hills to the Terai, from national parks to rivers, from ancient landmarks to Nepalese day-to-day lifestyle.
In this exclusive program, you will visit different locations every day. Therefore, there is no single schedule to work. Except for Saturday and Sunday, you will travel to various parts of Nepal with an experienced supervisor after lunch.

Nepal photo journalism volunteering program starts every 2nd and 4th Monday of each month, all year long. If you experience any travel difficulty or distress getting to Nepal on the day of your chosen program, you can also start on any other day of the year.
Every year, hundreds of volunteers arrive in Nepal to volunteer from UK and USA-based organizations and end up paying up to $2500 to volunteer for 2 weeks. However, RCDP offers the most affordable program fee. Our program fee starts as low as $300. The program fee is divided into a registration fee ($279) and a weekly fee.
In Nepal, in addition to volunteer programs, RCDP runs many projects to help poor children and orphanages. We are presently running one orphanage in Nepal and a school construction/renovation program (for details, visit: http://www.rcdpnepal.org/about_rcdp/achievements.php).
The majority of your program fee is used for your program. However, as RCDP aims to support poor communities and children, we use remaining savings (if any are left) to run and manage our orphanages and community projects.
Volunteer in Nepal photo journalism program weekly fee is divided between room, 2 local meals a day (50%), and project donation/support of local project staff (50%). This allocation may be different depending on location, project type, etc. However, our coordinator will explain these issues before you pay the fee. Please find below the breakdown of costs weekly.

During your Photojournalism volunteering program in Nepal, RCDP provides comfortable accommodation in our volunteer hostel. The hostel is safe, clean, and designed to give you a friendly and social environment with other volunteers.
Meals are included as part of your weekly program fees. You will receive two home-cooked meals per day – breakfast and dinner. During project hours, you will be out for lunch, but if you are at the hostel with no scheduled work, a lunch will be prepared for you.
Staying in the volunteer hostel gives you the chance to connect with fellow volunteers, share experiences, and immerse yourself in Nepalese culture while enjoying a safe and supportive environment.

While in the photojournalism Nepal volunteer program, you will work for about 4 to 5 hours a day. Therefore, there will be plenty of time to explore the stunning neighboring places and communities. Moreover, you’ll have weekends off (Saturday and Sunday) to visit the country and go on longer tours. During this time, you can go to visit the beautiful cities of Pokhara, Chitwan, and more.
