Do you dream of exploring Nepal’s rich culture while experiencing the majestic Himalayas? Would you like to teach English to underprivileged children and disadvantaged communities in Nepal? This volunteer teaching program offers exactly that — and much more.
Nepal is a spectacular country, blessed with breathtaking landscapes, unique traditions, and diverse flora and fauna. Each day here brings new opportunities to experience the country’s vibrant culture and connect with its people.
Proficiency in English can open doors to global opportunities for people in Nepal. Unfortunately, children from disadvantaged backgrounds often cannot afford private schools. Government schools are frequently underfunded and lack experienced teachers, making it difficult for these children to develop strong English skills.
Through RCDP’s volunteer teaching program in Nepal, volunteers collaborate with these understaffed schools to help children improve their English language skills. Your guidance and dedication can make a lasting impact, improving both the current learning environment and future opportunities for these children.
This program is an ideal opportunity to gain international teaching experience, immerse yourself in Nepal’s fascinating culture, and contribute to the growth and development of underprivileged children — all while enriching your own career.
Become a volunteer in Nepal and experience the fulfillment of making a real difference. If you’re ready to create a positive impact and change lives, join RCDP now and be part of this life-changing journey.

Your efforts directly support education and personal development, while fostering a meaningful cultural exchange.
When you join this volunteer English teaching opportunity in Nepal, you will teach disadvantaged children in schools. Your primary responsibility will be teaching conversational English to help them improve their language skills. You will also support recreational and artistic activities, assist local teachers with their work, contribute to curriculum development, and, if needed, help with daily school administration tasks.
To take part in this volunteer teaching program in Nepal, fluency in English is required. No other specific qualifications are necessary. However, you should enjoy teaching children and be patient, open-minded, and respectful. As volunteering is about supporting and caring for disadvantaged communities, you are also expected to be hardworking, passionate, and compassionate toward those in need.
In Nepal, you will work with different schools, each with its own needs, tasks, and programs; there is no fixed schedule or daily itinerary. Just be prepared to help with many exciting tasks and activities.
Here is a sample daily schedule:
The volunteer teaching program in Nepal starts on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month, year-round. If travel constraints prevent you from arriving on these dates, your program can also start on any day of the year.
Every year, hundreds of volunteers from UK and USA-based organizations spend up to $2,500 for a 2-week program in Nepal. However, RCDP offers the most affordable program fee, starting as low as $1580. The fee is divided into a registration fee ($279) and a weekly fee.
In addition to Nepal teaching volunteer programs, RCDP runs projects supporting underprivileged children and orphanages. We currently manage two orphanages and conduct school construction/renovation programs (for details, visit: RCDP Achievements). The majority of your program fee goes directly to your program, with any remaining funds supporting these community projects and orphanages.
The weekly fee is typically allocated as 50% for room and three local meals per day, and 50% for project support and local staff. Allocation may vary depending on the location or type of project, but your program coordinator will explain these details before payment.

Several schools are part of our Nepal volunteer teaching English opportunity. All details of your placement will be provided upon completion of the application process.
Volunteers typically work with children aged 5 to 13 years, covering pre-primary, primary, and lower secondary levels. This age range allows you to engage with children at a formative stage in their education, helping to build strong foundational skills in English and other subjects.
While the primary focus is English, volunteers may also assist with basic math, science, arts, or sports activities, which helps create a well-rounded learning experience for the children.
Volunteers use interactive teaching methods such as storytelling, games, role-playing, and group activities. These creative methods help children learn effectively while keeping classes fun and engaging.
The schools provide a set curriculum along with lesson plans and teaching resources to guide volunteers. However, you are encouraged to create your own activities and teaching materials, allowing you to bring your creativity, ideas, and personal teaching style into the classroom.
The size of the schools in Nepal varies. Normally, a class has around 20-30 students, and the school may have anywhere from 250-500 children in total.
As a teaching volunteer, you will primarily assist the local Nepali English teacher in the classroom. They provide valuable support with communication, classroom management, and lesson planning. On rare occasions, you may lead a class independently, but guidance from the local teacher is always available to ensure a smooth and rewarding experience.
The minimum duration for this program is usually one week, but volunteers are encouraged to stay longer to make a more lasting impact and develop stronger relationships with students. Some volunteers stay for several weeks or months, depending on their availability and travel plans.
Yes, extensions are possible based on project availability. Staying longer allows volunteers to deepen their impact and gain more cultural and teaching experience.
Volunteers should pack modest and comfortable clothing suitable for a classroom setting, including long pants and shirts that cover the shoulders. Teaching materials or books may be brought if desired, though basic supplies are usually available at the school. Other recommended items include a reusable water bottle, toiletries, sturdy shoes, and any personal medications.

Your presence also provides a cultural exchange experience for the children and brings fresh energy and ideas to the classroom. Even short-term volunteers can leave a lasting impression.
Volunteers receive full support from the local team, starting with an airport pick-up upon arrival in Kathmandu. An orientation session helps you understand local customs, program expectations, and basic Nepali phrases. The local coordinators are available throughout your stay to assist with teaching advice, cultural guidance, and any emergencies.
While teaching, you will have the opportunity to engage with students, teachers, and families, as well as participate in community events. This interaction enhances cultural understanding and builds meaningful connections.
